| Watch a painting happen... Painting Four, Step Eight Bark, Branches and Bank. To your right, bark and branches have been reinforced. First, I added texture to the tree's bark using the same color as the leaves. Then I paid particular attention to transitions from trunk to branches and then the branch as it extended outward. My emphasis was to help them connect to the trunk naturally and progress away from the body of the tree thinning and detail fading in the process. |

The banks of the foreground became a non issue. I decided to keep them as nondescript as possible, green-gray platforms for the trees.
The trees are an issue. They look a little pasted on (see image on your left), their leaves are too crisp and clean, not look part of their environment. I think the problem is edges. They need to be softened. To accomplish softening, I will use a round clean brush with clean water and gently stroke all the harsh edges. That may bring the trees back into the picture. I will post results to your right and call the paintings finished. Click on Step 9 below for finished work. |
