| Watch a painting happen... Painting Four, Step Seven Leaves Help a Bunch. To the right, all four paintings' trees now have leaves. The reason I am pointing this out is for comparison purposes to the earlier stage with just tree trunks. No longer are the three negative spaces defined by tree trunks as apparent but they are still there working for visual interest. And below, the hero painting to give you an idea of all the painting's progress. This Step Seven is primarily a visual catch up. In Step Eight, I will work the ground below the trees and the tree trunks. |

| It is very hard to see on the web the subtleties of a painting. That is why I never miss the opportunity to urge you to see paintings in their original. One of the biggest surprises of my life has always been seeing "old master's" paintings in "the flesh." Reproductions in books, on the web, on television, don't do originals justice.
On your left it is very hard to see but fall color is worked into the tree's leaves from the bottom up and slowly disappearing about three fourths of the way up. The hue used was a mixture of Gamboge and Cadimum Red, about four to one. |
