The Shadow, Again ? ...
On the right is the painting in its present degree of finish. The shadow needs work, needs to go darker in value, needs more empathetic and sensitive detailing. Now, behind more finished marbles, it looks anemic.
A point seems to be developing with Painting Three. A painting evolves - almost from its own momentum - even a very controlled painting like this one. Sometimes parts of it speaks to the artist saying, "Paint me next," and the artist works for the painting. The painting is finished when it declares so.
On the web, these don't look much different. But pay attention to the darks in the place mat. The effect in the original is much more dramatic.
