Painting Two, Step Ten

Look and feel development...

And on your right, I am working back from the big wipe out. First, the two horses' development.

First, the horses as shown to the right followed by the oak tree right below the horses'.

Upon these developments, it appeared to me that the painting was becoming fractured - becoming two paintings almost divided in half on the vertical (see the entire painting in Step 9). On the left is the barn and driveway all light and on the right is the tree and horses all dark. The painting is becoming fragmented into two parts.

To remedy the problem, I am in the process of darkening the driveway and its shaded areas which at the same time pulls the painting back together as evidenced below.

To the right, I have worked more detail into both horses with the same hues that I used to establish them.
And to the left, I have smoothed and shaped foliage in the oak tree. To brighten it up a little,  I added high lights with Azo Yellow.
Also, this darkening of the left makes the horses grazing along in shadow which I think will make the horses more interesting. I will paint the shadows dancing across their forms which will add a bunch of interest to the foreground I suspect.

That's one of those things. No matter how I try to control a painting, often it takes life on its own, almost spiritual. The painting reaches out to me the artist saying paint me this way.

And I the artist can hear its words and the wisdom of its advice.

That is what Step 11 will be all about.
