Watch a painting happen...
Painting One, Step Five
Need something special...
Booring....need to find something to make this painting special, take it in a new or more interesting direction. I am searching. I will post when I find.
Got a little input by e-mail from a couple of you that are watching. One suggested a windmill and the other a barn, both good suggestions but just don't feel right for me. Looking at this thing, it's 4 foot of snow in Montana, not my memories of winter any where close to Dallas. Most of my "snow in Texas" memories come from between here and Lubbock... lot of rocks, cactus and brush. So.... |

Think I will go for wind-swept rocky isolation and that's going to take time (in isolation), painting time. I will show you steps as the significantly progress and post this page in parts as they happen. |

With more stuff happening, the painting is becoming more interesting but I feel like I am losing an important quality -- cold! It is supposed to be dead winter and my alizarin crimson, yellow ocher and other earth tones are making it look like late fall with white rock soil and a sandstorm.
I am going to wash it in blue, cerulean blue, and see if I can recover the cold. Washing over mostly alizarin crimson should give me a purple of some kind. The painting is going to get real wet and a lot of that background work will soften its edges. Don't think that will be bad either?
Who knows? Perhaps this is that "something special" that I am looking for. I will post it soon as the wash is in. |
