Painting One, Step Four

Details flush it out...

Working on some details, the fence line and ranch road. Not sure how I will handle either but need to do something or this painting is going to look booooring!

I'll post the battle against the boring soon as I win...I don't know for sure if I am winning or not yet but I am progressing.

Above is where we stand. It's getting better but I am real unhappy with the snow drift...looks like dirty rasberry ice cream instead of frozen grass and snow. Time to take a risk.

With a sopping wet big brush, I blended all the colors in the bank together and then with a mat cutter scraped out ice covered grass. Better!

But the painting is still looking pretty boring...

I am not sure where I am going from here but I will post the direction soon as I discover it.

First, the fence line...with Payne's Gray and a dab of Raw Sienna, I establish the fence posts using my largest flat brush. Wire lines are stroked in using a straight edge.
With a light wash of Payne's Gray warmed with a little Alizarin Crimson, I added definition to the road and snow covered pasture. Yellow Ochre mixed with Alizarin Crimson and Payne's Gray in differing porpotions gave me the different hued and valued grass along the fence line. Also, I defined the snow bank down wind of the fence. It's getting a little more interesting.
