The Port Isabel Lighthouse is one of two in Texas that I am aware of. The other is at Point Boliver and I have never seen it. The Port Isabel Lighthouse is a memory from my childhood however.
On a summer excursion to South Padre Island when I was about twelve years old, we stopped and climbed the winding staircase inside the lighthouse and fed change to the telescopes that were then atop the facility. I remember the thrill of looking miles inland and watching boats far out to sea in the Bay and beyond.
Many local painters show their images of the lighthouse and I debated myself on if I wanted to paint it or not. I decided to paint it and tried to catch the light on the shape's stark white walls.
