The endless Texas sky looms over this road surveyed by the Civil War general Robert E. Lee who as a young man was mapping the way to the South Texas salt flats visible on the left. Straight and flat, the road dead ends at Boca Chica Beach, South across the ship channel from the more well known South Padre Island."
